Dietro la Rezza

San Vito dei Normanni, mid-1950s. The rezza has always been a symbol of the Salento town: a covering, a hiding place, a refuge, but also a form of confinement, especially if you're born a woman.

Synopsis

The elderly women hide behind the wooden slats, concealing their desires, ambitions, and curiosity about a world that is changing. The rezza does not facilitate the passage between the “inside” and the “outside,” and Cenzina knows this all too well. While playing hide-and-seek with her cousins, she takes refuge behind her curtain, as she always does. Her eyes are always spying. But one day will come when simply hiding and watching will no longer be enough for her.
